Young Adult Resource Center

On Any Given Day,

There Are As Many As 10,000 Homeless Youths, 18 - 25 Years Of Age, In The City Of Houston.

Many homeless youths face troubling experiences like sexual assaults, crime, substance abuse, history of family disfunction, educational deficiency, mental and behavioral health issues, and other acts of violence.

The Salvation Army's response to this crisis is the Young Adult Resource Center (YARC) which provides care and support to homeless youth. Through unconditional support and expert resource navigation, we provide an accepting and encouraging space to care for young adults at a crossroads where life-altering decisions are made.

YARC'S GENERAL SERVICES INCLUDE:

  • Hot lunches, prepared carryout meals, and snacks
  • Referrals to emergency shelters or other more appropriate alternatives
  • Access to telephones, Internet via a computer lab, and the use of a mailing address for contacts
  • Showers and lockers
  • Laundry facilities
  • Personal hygiene supplies and clothing
  • Access to information and agency communication referrals
  • Assistance in obtaining proper identification

The Salvation Army strives to develop judgment-free safe places like YARC where it is okay to "not know" all the answers with open-hearted staff to provide guidance and support. YARC also works closely with Tony's Place to provide support and empower homeless LGBTQ- Youth.
