HOMELESS VETERANS IN HOUSTON

28% Of Houston’s Homeless Population Is Comprised Of Veterans

Since World War I, when Salvationists mobilized to France’s front lines bringing spiritual comfort to soldiers along with the comforts of home, The Salvation Army has been honored to serve the men & women of our armed forces.

Those who fought to protect us often find themselves battling loneliness and depression years after returning home. Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), drug and alcohol addiction, and homelessness have caused those who gave everything to lose everything. That’s why The Salvation Army is committed to standing beside those who stood up for us by offering various veteran services to meet their needs. Each week, The Salvation Army reaches out to veterans living on the streets of Downtown Houston.

In 2019, The Salvation Army helped 408 veterans access housing at the Center of Hope and provided life-saving assistance. We also helped eleven veterans obtain employment, and 64 veterans receive vocational training and certifications useful to increase marketability for employment opportunities.
