A Sweet Celebration Honoring National Donut Day Across Houston
National Donut Day was celebrated in grand fashion across Houston as The Salvation Army honored the legacy of the courageous Donut Lassies and shared the story behind one of America's sweetest traditions.
The festivities began with a special appearance on Great Day Houston at KHOU 11, where the host and our Advisory Board Vice Chair, Deborah Duncan welcomed The Salvation Army's John Romaka to the show. During the segment, viewers learned about the inspiring history of National Donut Day and the remarkable women known as the Donut Lassies.

The celebration continued throughout the city as our own Donut Lassies spread joy and smiles with visits to HEB and River Oaks Donuts. They interacted with customers and shared the history behind National Donut Day.
National Donut Day, established in 1938, serves as a tribute to The Salvation Army brave women who uplifted soldiers during World War I. More than a century later, their spirit of compassion lives on through the work of The Salvation Army and the countless volunteers, donors, and supporters who help meet human needs without discrimination.
