A Heartfelt Farewell After 32 Years of Faithful Service!
We are both excited and a little sad to announce the retirement of our beloved cook, Ms. Maria Meija, from the Salvation Army Jones Family Residence after an incredible 32 years of faithful service. Maria has been a constant source of warmth, joy, and delicious meals to uplift those who have passed through our doors, residents, staff, volunteers, and officers alike.
With her radiant smile and kind words, Maria left a lasting impact on those who called our family shelter home. She has provided not only nourishment but also a sense of comfort and care to every person she encountered. Her 32 years with The Salvation Army have been marked by love, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to serving others.
At Maria’s retirement party, we were honored to receive letters from past officers of the Houston Area Command, all of whom had wonderful things to say about her. One common theme emerged: everyone agreed that Maria’s cooking is simply phenomenal. Whether you were here for a quick visit or working alongside her, her culinary talents were unforgettable.
Though we are thrilled for Maria as she embarks on her next chapter of life, we will miss the culinary favorites and the joy she brought to every meal at the Family Residence.
Maria, your legacy here is as enduring as the memories you’ve helped create. Thank you for everything—you’ve truly been a blessing to us all!
