Commanding Officers

Capts. Pilmo Kang & Shinyoung Yoo Kang

We, Pilmo & Shinyoung Kang, are the commanding officers of the Salvation Army Houston International Corps and Community Care Center. We came to the USA from South Korea in 2010 for Pilmo’s study at Liberty University in Virginia. We were a Presbyterian church pastor and pastor’s wife before we were introduced to the Salvation Army. By the irresistible calling from God and His grace, we entered Evangeline Booth College, the Salvation Army School for Officer Training in Atlanta, Georgia. We graduated as ordained ministers of the Salvation Army in 2016. We moved to Houston to start our new journey as Corps officers of the Houston International Corps/Community Center. As the first generation of immigrants from South Korea, we have a special calling to serve people from various nationalities and multi-culture through the ministries of the Salvation Army of Houston International Corps, which has 27 nationalities.

For the last four years of our officership, we’ve been discovering what it means to be a pastor, a shepherd, and a servant of Christ. Our hearts desire to bring Jesus Christ into everyone’s heart we serve and to build the next generation who stands firm on the solid and unshakable faith in God.

Currently, we live in Richmond, Texas, with three precious children, Christopher, Timothy, and Ruah, and two sweet but misbehaving dogs, Rosie and Janggoon.
