The Salvation Army Coastal Bend is ready and prepared to respond to Tropical Storm Harvey

As Tropical Storm Harvey redevelops and threatens the Texas coast, The Salvation Army Costal Bend is on standby and prepared to respond as needed. Our local unit is fully equipped and ready to assist first responders and the community with feeding, shelter, pastoral care and long-term relief.

The Salvation Army Costal Bend staff is working closely with the city’s EOC and local partners. Additional Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services teams across Texas are on standby and will be deployed should Corpus Christi require more support.

“The Salvation Army has more than 115 years of experience in disaster relief efforts since officers were first called to respond to the Galveston Hurricane of 1900. It is because of this tradition of service and our mission to meet human need that The Salvation Army stands ready to help,” said Captain Patrick Gesner, Commanding Officer of The Salvation Army Coastal Bend. “Rest assured, our local Salvation Army programs and services will continue to bring comfort and support to our community during this time.”

About The Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services

“The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.” While every disaster is unique and creates its own special needs, the core of The Salvation Army’s disaster program consists of several basic services. And while these services address many of the typical needs of a disaster survivor, Salvation Army disaster relief is also flexible. Our services are adapted to the specific needs of individuals and communities and scalable according to the magnitude of the disaster.
