Energy presents The Salvation Army with a $100,000 donation. |
Devon Energy
Corporation responded to The Salvation Army of Greater Houston’s
request for assistance by presenting the nonprofit
organization
$100,000 for hurricane relief. The new funds will help The
Salvation Army continue to respond to the most basic and
immediate of human needs.
Through their Hurricane Ike disaster relief efforts, The
Salvation Army has provided some 3 million snacks; 2 million
hot-meals; 22,000 cleaning kits; and counseled about 8,000
individuals in the Southeast Texas region. All this, in spite of
the fact that funds raised this year amounted to only 4 percent
of the amount raised during the 2005 hurricane season.
"From feeding two million people after Hurricane Ike to
providing thousands of holiday gifts for families still
struggling, the Salvation Army’s work is very important to our
community," said Bill Van Wie, senior vice president of
exploration for Devon Energy. "We are proud to support the
Salvation Army’s remarkable efforts.
"Major Marshall Gesner, Area Commander for The Salvation Army,
praised the donation as a much-needed contribution.

"Devon Energy is a solid
partner and supporter of The Salvation Army of Greater Houston,
and we are grateful for their generosity and commitment to the
people we serve," said Gesner.
The Salvation Army of Greater Houston serves residents of
Harris, Fort Bend and Montgomery counties through youth
programs, senior programs, housing, rehabilitation, counseling,
financial assistance, disaster relief, emergency response, and
Christmas assistance at 17 area locations. Of every dollar
raised, 89.5 cents is put to work in direct services for local
residents.
Devon Energy is one of the world’s leading independent oil and
gas exploration and production companies, employing over 1,500
individuals in the Greater Houston region.
