Why I Support and Participate in the Christmas in July 5k
It’s July in Houston and it is 100 degrees with 1,000 humidity!
Why would I do The Salvation Army’s “Christmas in July 5K” fun run/walk? I do it because it is just that important to our community… and it really is FUN!
My name is Stick Delaup and I am a member of The Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary. We see firsthand the overwhelming needs in our community through our volunteer efforts.
Helping Youth at Family Residence
At this writing, we are days away from the start of The Family Residence Summer Reading Program. Family Residence is a shelter for families, mostly women and their children, in some form of transition to housing.
The children attend weekly, check out books and keep them, submit reports, and win prizes. Keeping these children involved in reading over the summer is critical to their success in the future.
I am passionate about volunteering to help raise funds for the many programs that The Salvation Army supports. The Salvation Army truly “Do the Most Good” with our dollars.
“Rockin’ Reindeers” at the 5K
In the inaugural year of the “Christmas in July 5K” fun run, the Women’s Auxiliary had a dozen brave ladies attend and participate. We are hoping to double -or triple- that participation number this year. The Auxiliary Rockin’ Reindeers will be present!
So grab your pals or your bible study group or your family and come join us! Hope to see you there!
