NFL Hall-of-Famer
Archie Manning to Headline Annual Luncheon for The Salvation
Army
Football legend Archie Manning,
father of pro-footballers Peyton and Eli Manning, will serve as
keynote speaker at The Salvation Army’s Annual Luncheon next
month. The annual fundraising event, which will be held at the
Hilton Americas Hotel in downtown Houston on Wednesday, November
19, 2008, is an opportunity for individuals and corporations to
support The Salvation Army and its many services including local
Boys & Girls clubs, senior programs, Meals on Wheels, social
services, family services, adult rehabilitation, disaster
relief, shelter, and many more.
For 119 years the nonprofit
organization has provided assistance and support to the Greater
Houston region and surrounding metropolitan areas. Manning – a
long time Salvation Army supporter – is better known for his
impressive football career that includes playing in two Pro
Bowls, being named the NFL’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) in 1978,
and being the first player in the New Orleans Saints history to
be inducted into the Louisiana Superdome Wall of Fame.
Now the former NFL Pro Bowl
Quarterback and League MVP is asking individuals and
corporations to give back to their local Salvation Army by
supporting the Annual Luncheon.
Scheduled to take place on
Wednesday, November 19, 2008, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at
the Hilton Americas Hotel in downtown Houston, the
fundraising event is organized by The Salvation Army Advisory
Board, and will also include Mr. J Hugh Roff, Jr. as the
Honoree. Mr. and Mrs. Phil Conway are the luncheon chairs.
"The Salvation Army is such an important part of the fabric of
our community – any community really – through the programs and
services they provide. We are talking about an organization
that puts 89.5 cents of every dollar raised to work in direct
services,” say luncheon chairs, Mr. Phil and Suzie Conway.
“Families and children rely on the
support The Salvation Army provides, and we should all share the
responsibility of making sure this important institution remains
fiscally sound.”
