The
Salvation Army Houston

Actor, comedian and economist
Ben Stein will be the guest speaker at The Salvation Army's
annual luncheon. |
At once a cult
figure for his breakout role in the movie Ferris Bueller’s
Day Off, a learned economist of international acclaim, a
columnist for the New York Times, a bestselling author,
an unrivaled comic, and a spokesperson for Clear Eyes, etc.,
etc., Ben Stein’s resume reads like an endless list of
significant and diverse accomplishments. This November 3rd, he
will add the title of keynote speaker for The Salvation Army of
Greater Houston’s Annual Luncheon to his resume.
Ben Stein will
bring his signature quirkiness and personal humor to the
nonprofit organization’s Annual Luncheon, which is The Salvation
Army of Greater Houston’s largest fundraising event of the year.
Organized by The
Salvation Army Greater Houston Advisory Board, the event will
take place on
Tuesday,
November 3, 2009, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Hilton
Americas Hotel in downtown Houston.
On behalf of The Salvation Army, luncheon chairs Jim P. and Jane
Wise will also honor Mr. William T. Slick, Jr. as the annual
event’s 2009 Honoree for his volunteerism, leadership, and loyal
support of The Salvation Army of Greater Houston as a life
member of its Advisory Board.
“We are excited to
have Ben Stein as the guest speaker for the 2009 Salvation Army
of Houston Annual Luncheon. Mr. Stein’s national reputation and
relaxed and funny style will be stimulating and fun for all who
attend the luncheon,” say the Wises.
Individual tickets for this
exclusive fundraiser are $150. Table sponsorships range from
$3,000 to $25,000 and all proceeds raised by this worthwhile
charity event will benefit the over 119,000 local men, women and
children who rely on The Salvation Army of Greater Houston
annually.

Programs such as youth mentorship, senior
feeding programs, family shelters, drug and alcohol
rehabilitation centers, counseling, financial assistance,
housing, disaster relief and Christmas assistance are all
provided by the nonprofit organization at its 17 centers of
operation in Harris, Fort Bend and Montgomery counties. To
maximize its limited resources the Army applies 88.4 cents of
every dollar it receives in donations to direct services.
“What other celebrity can say they’ve
worked as a speech writer and economic advisor for Presidents
Nixon and Ford, won an Emmy Award as Best Game Show Host,
graduated as valedictorian from Yale Law School, authored a
collection of bestselling books, and engraved forever two words
into the popular culture of the United States in one single
movie scene?,” adds Jim P. Wise. “His speech and delivery will
be excellent…and the fact that it’s for a good cause will
hopefully attract even more people.”
Last year’s Annual Luncheon speaker was
hall-of-famer, Mr. Archie Manning. For tickets, table
sponsorships or additional information, please contact Ms.
Denise Furlough at (832) 201-8026 or at
